Kings Park goes green

Green Flag Award 2012/13Kings Park and Botanic Garden has won a coveted Green Flag Award. This Award is recognised internationally for the highest standard of parks and green spaces. Kings Park and Botanic Garden was commended for its leading practices; in particular it’s outstanding volunteer program and green waste management. Other criteria included a high standard of safety, welcoming facilities, excellent management of the environment and historical features and sustainability practices, as well as provision of outstanding recreational facilities. Native plant sale

Native Plant Sale. Photo: A.Russell.Get in quick for some unusual beauties at the Friends of Kings Park native plant sale on Sunday, 24 March. Held at the Exhibition Ground just off Fraser Avenue in Kings Park, this quarterly event is a chance to buy native plants that are well-suited to WA home gardens and not often available from commercial nurseries. All proceeds from the volunteer Friends of Kings Park plant sales support worthwhile projects and research in Kings Park and Botanic Garden. Read more…

Special outdoor movie to support Kings Park

Fundraising movie night. Photo: S.Albers.A special screening of ‘The Hobbit’ (rated M) will be held at Moonlight Cinema in Synergy Parkland on Saturday, 23 March. All ticket sales will be donated to the volunteer Friends of Kings Park who are celebrating 20 years of community service this year. Bring a picnic and join us under the stars for this special movie event and support these dedicated volunteers and your beautiful park. The Moonlight Cinema season concludes on Sunday, 31 March. Attention junior explorers!

Rainbow Bee-eater in Kings ParkRio Tinto Naturescape Kings Park has re-opened after the annual planned four week closure during the heat of February. Major maintenance and improvements undertaken during this time have ensured it is again looking fantastic for visitors. Opening hours are 9.00 am – 4.00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. This area is closed every Monday and on days a very high fire danger rating or above is forecast. New artistWave by Vivienne Jagger joins Aspects

Aspects of Kings Park Gallery Shop is delighted to welcome local glass artist Vivienne Jagger as a new supplier. Inspired by the fluidity of nature and the brilliant hues of WA, Vivienne’s work captures the movement of water, whether in the large swells of the ocean or the ripples of a shallow rock pool. A range of Vivienne’s pieces are now on display instore. Also joining the Aspects family of artists is textile designer Emilie Cacace.
